Legal Expert Fears Netanyahu Trial Testimony Will Expose Misconduct

Dr. Yaakov Ben-Shams, a legal expert, expressed significant concern on Sunday regarding the upcoming testimony of Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit in the trial of former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Speaking on 'Galei Yisrael' radio, Ben-Shams highlighted recent police investigator accounts suggesting procedural violations and alleged illegal actions during the investigation that led to Netanyahu's indictment.

Ben-Shams specifically cited instances where investigations against the prime minister may have proceeded without the required legal approval from the Attorney General's office. He also pointed to the use of questionable investigative methods, including the recruitment of state witnesses, which he believes may have been improperly handled.

"We are very afraid of the moment when the Attorney General who filed the indictment takes the witness stand, because God knows what hornet's nest is about to be opened," Ben-Shams stated. He anticipates that Mandelblit's testimony could reveal details about his knowledge of, or approval for, these alleged investigative irregularities, potentially aiding the defense.

The expert's remarks come amid ongoing legal proceedings where Mandelblit, as the Attorney General, is the one who formally indicted Netanyahu. The concern is that Mandelblit's own testimony might inadvertently expose flaws or misconduct within the investigation process he oversaw, creating an unpredictable situation for the prosecution.
