IDF Distributes Sukkahs and Ritual Items to Troops for Sukkot Holiday
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has distributed 18,500 sukkahs of various sizes to military bases across the country for the upcoming Sukkot holiday, with soldiers erecting them under the guidance of unit rabbis. For troops operating in the field, the military rabbinate provided 2,200 "tactical sukkahs" specifically designed for combat zones. These were constructed to avoid revealing troop locations.
Additionally, approximately 13,000 sets of "arba minim", the four species required for Sukkot rituals (a palm branch, two willow branches, three myrtle branches, and a citron), were distributed. The military rabbinate emphasized its commitment to ensuring every soldier can observe the holiday traditions, even under challenging operational conditions.
The distribution aims to allow soldiers to fulfill the mitzvah of dwelling in a sukkah and performing the holiday rituals despite their deployment in active combat areas.
