IDF Distributes Thousands of Sukkahs for Troops Ahead of Holiday

The Israeli military's Rabbinate has prepared to ensure all soldiers can observe the Sukkot holiday, even amid complex operational realities. This year, the military distributed 18,500 sukkahs of various sizes across all IDF units, with soldiers constructing them under the guidance of unit rabbis. Specifically for combat troops operating in the field, the Rabbinate provided 2,200 tactical sukkahs designed for operational areas and built to avoid revealing troop locations.

In addition to the sukkahs, approximately 13,000 sets of the "Four Species" (etrog, lulav, hadas, aravot) were distributed after undergoing strict halachic (Jewish law) review by the Rabbinate's halacha branch to ensure proper observance of the holiday commandment. Furthermore, tens of thousands of content booklets aimed at bolstering morale were distributed, reaching soldiers on the front lines.

The Rabbinate emphasized that they view Sukkot as an "opportunity to connect the soldiers to the joy of the holiday, to strengthen the value of camaraderie and the spirit of the fighters."
