Southern Israel Residents Disturbed by Hours of Intense Gunfire from Rahat

Residents of Givaot Bar and Mash'abei Sadeh in southern Israel experienced a frightening weekend as intense gunfire, lasting for several hours, emanated from the direction of the city of Rahat. The sounds, usually a background noise, became a prolonged and powerful event, leaving many families on edge and worried.

According to residents, the shooting began in the morning and continued for an extended period. They described the intensity as unusual, even for those accustomed to occasional gunfire from Rahat. One resident likened the experience to a "battle taking place in the community," expressing fear and concern. The prolonged nature of the incident brought back difficult feelings from the past, with residents feeling that the reality in the area is not being adequately addressed.

In parallel, police in Rahat responded to a report of gunfire in neighborhood 20. Officers and special unit fighters located a suspect vehicle outside the neighborhood. A search yielded an M-16 rifle, six magazines, and ammunition. However, for the residents of Givaot Bar, the number of arrests or weapons seized does not resolve the core issue. For them, any burst of gunfire from Rahat quickly becomes a tangible fear, especially when it lasts for hours and reaches their doorstep.
