Mercedes CLA Electric Sedan Offers Long Range, Fast Charging in Israel

The electric Mercedes-Benz CLA is now available in Israel, with the 250+ version boasting an official range of up to 793 kilometers on a single charge. This figure places it among the top electric vehicles in the Israeli market for range. However, real-world performance and value for money are key considerations.

The entry-level CLA 200 starts at 309,900 shekels with an official range of 470-542 km. The CLA 250+ begins at 379,900 shekels, featuring an 85 kWh battery, a 272 horsepower rear motor, and an official range of 694-793 km. The all-wheel-drive CLA 350 is priced from 419,900 shekels, offering an official range of up to 772 km. These prices exclude licensing fees.

In real-world tests, the CLA 250+ with 19-inch wheels achieved approximately 547 km on a highway-focused test and around 698 km on a mixed city and highway route. Another test estimated a range of about 612 km based on measured consumption. These results highlight the significant impact of driving speed and conditions on actual range, with highway driving reducing it from the official figures.

Despite the variability, the CLA 250+ is competitive among EVs with official ranges exceeding 700 km in Israel. Its charging capabilities are also a strong point, supporting DC fast charging up to 320 kW, with Mercedes claiming a 10% to 80% charge in about 22 minutes at a compatible station. Ten minutes of charging can add up to 325 km of official range under optimal conditions.

The vehicle's design contributes to its efficiency, including a two-speed transmission for the rear motor and aerodynamic bodywork with a drag coefficient as low as 0.21 in some versions. On the road, testers praised its comfort, steering, and natural brake response. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 6.7 seconds for the 250+ model, which is adequate but not class-leading.

Interior feedback was mixed, with some reviewers noting that certain interior materials felt less premium than expected for the price, and rear headroom can be limited for taller passengers. The trunk offers 405 liters, plus a 101-liter front trunk for charging cables. The Tesla Model 3 remains a direct competitor, offering lower prices in some trims and its own charging network, though the CLA 250+ surpasses it in official range and maximum charging speed.
