Mercedes GLC Electric Battles BMW iX3 in Israeli Market

The new electric Mercedes-Benz GLC has entered a competitive segment in Israel, facing off against the electric BMW iX3. Both vehicles are available locally, with their entry-level versions priced closely. However, higher-performance trims show more significant differences in price and driving range.

The entry-level Mercedes GLC 250 starts at 439,900 shekels before licensing fees. It features a rear-wheel-drive motor producing 354 horsepower and 505 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. Its battery offers a usable capacity of 85 kWh, with an official range between 541 and 650 km. It supports fast charging up to 320 kW, capable of charging from 10% to 80% in about 22 minutes under optimal conditions.

Higher trims include the GLC 300 with all-wheel drive, starting at 499,900 shekels, and the GLC 400, also all-wheel drive, beginning at 529,900 shekels. The GLC 400 boasts 489 horsepower, a 94 kWh battery, and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds, with an official range of 657-663 km and a maximum charging rate of 330 kW.

Reviews suggest the GLC prioritizes a comfortable and quiet ride, with suspension effectively absorbing road imperfections. While it handles winding roads well, its character is described as more relaxed compared to the BMW iX3, which offers a sportier, sharper steering feel. The GLC also excels in space, measuring approximately 4.85 meters in length with a nearly 3-meter wheelbase, providing generous rear legroom. Its trunk capacity is 570 liters, with an additional 128-liter front trunk for cables.

Inside, the GLC offers a new operating system, voice assistant, and an optional large, wide-spanning screen. While the display quality and system responsiveness are praised, opinions on the interior design, with its numerous screens and glossy surfaces, are divided. The BMW iX3 40, the entry-level model, starts at 434,900 shekels, a 5,000 shekel difference from the GLC 250. The all-wheel-drive iX3 50 is priced at 489,900 shekels, about 40,000 shekels less than the GLC 400. The iX3 50 has 469 horsepower, a 108.7 kWh battery, an official range of up to 801 km, and a maximum charging rate of 400 kW. BMW has not yet received Israeli type approval for the model, and its claimed range increase of 309-372 km in ten minutes of charging is dependent on charging infrastructure and conditions.

In comparison, the BMW iX3 offers a longer official range and higher maximum charging speed in its all-wheel-drive variant, while the Mercedes GLC provides superior comfort, quietness, and interior space. Potential buyers of the GLC are advised to carefully check the specific equipment and suspension type of the chosen trim, as these can significantly impact the driving experience.
