Beth Shemesh Resident Charged Over Arson During Haredi Riots
Israel’s State Prosecutor has filed an indictment with the Jerusalem District Court against Yosef Friedman, 46, a Beth Shemesh resident, on charges of arson and riot participation. The case stems from a violent disturbance in the city that erupted after the arrest of a Haredi draft evader.
According to the indictment, Friedman set fire to vegetation three times near the Beth Shemesh police station during the unrest. Prosecutors say the repeated acts were carried out in the context of the riot and formed part of the violent events in the city.
The prosecution is also asking the court to keep Friedman in custody until the end of the legal proceedings against him.
