Charges Filed Against 17 Haredi Protesters Over Riot at Military Police Chief’s Home
Israel’s State Attorney’s Office has filed an indictment against 17 defendants, including four minors, over a riot and trespass at the home of the Military Police chief in Ashkelon. The incident took place about a month and a half ago, during a protest against the enlistment of yeshiva students.
According to the indictment, dozens of Haredi demonstrators gathered near the official’s home. Some of them broke through the locked entrance gate and entered the yard. While the chief’s family remained trapped inside the house, the protesters shouted insults directed at the Military Police chief and the Israel Defense Forces.
The damage to the yard is estimated at several thousand shekels. The case now proceeds through the criminal court process against all 17 accused.
