Opposition Leaders Meet, Sparking Political Reactions

Several prominent Israeli opposition leaders, including former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Yair Lapid, Gadi Eisenkot, Avigdor Lieberman, and Yair Golan, convened for a meeting at Lapid's home in Tel Aviv on Saturday. The group, referred to as the "change bloc," shared a joint photo and a document outlining their principles.

Following the meeting, Naftali Bennett expressed optimism, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that he was filled with hope and confident in their ability to win 63 Knesset seats and "fix Israel." He emphasized that everyone understood the significance of the moment and set aside personal considerations.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded by sharing an AI-generated image that superimposed MKs Mansour Abbas and Ahmed Tibi onto a photo of the opposition leaders. Bezalel Smotrich, head of the Religious Zionism party, called the meeting "dangerous." The Yisrael Beiteinu party countered Smotrich's statement with a video clip, questioning his ability to identify dangers.

Other political reactions included a statement from the Likud party, which asserted that a decision would not be made by a government led by Golan and Eisenkot, and urged right-wing individuals to join a broad right-wing government rather than form one with those who allegedly describe Israel as killing babies as a hobby. Conversely, MK Naama Lazimi of the Democrats praised the meeting and the joint document, while MK Merav Ben Ari of the Hatnuah party expressed her commitment to working together towards victory.
