Opposition Leaders Forge United Front Ahead of Elections

Leaders of the "Correction Bloc" (formerly the "Change Bloc") met at the Tel Aviv home of opposition leader Yair Lapid on Saturday evening, the first such gathering aimed at presenting a unified front for the upcoming elections. The meeting included Naftali Bennett, Gadi Eisenkot, Avigdor Lieberman, Yair Golan, and Yair Lapid.

The less-than-hour-long meeting concluded with the five leaders signing a joint document of principles. The document states that "replacing the government is our overarching shared goal," and commits the signatories to working together towards this objective, despite ideological differences. It also includes an agreement not to attack each other during the election campaign, in an effort to foster coordination.

A key element of the meeting was the release of the first joint photograph of the five leaders. Notably, the photo depicted them sitting around a table rather than standing in a line, a deliberate choice to avoid visually designating a central leader and to maintain the message of partnership without prematurely settling the question of who would head the bloc post-election. Yair Lapid's wife, Lahav Lapid, took the photograph.

The document, however, does not address how the bloc's leadership will be decided after the elections, leaving a significant question unresolved despite the unified front presented. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly responded to the meeting with a photograph of his own.
