Belgian Intelligence Links Iran to Attacks on Jewish Sites

Belgium's threat analysis unit has stated that Iran was behind two terrorist attacks targeting Jewish institutions in the country. Gert Vercauteren, head of Belgium's Coordination Unit for Threat Analysis (CUTA), told RTBF that "contacts from Iran led to two terrorist attacks in Belgium, and the attackers certainly carried out instructions from Tehran to target Jewish sites around the world." Israel's Ambassador to Belgium, David Saranga, reacted to the news on X, expressing surprise and suggesting Europe reconsider its policy towards Iran. He stated, "I am truly surprised, Iran directs terrorist attacks against Jewish sites in Belgium? Who would have imagined such a scenario? Perhaps it is time for Europe's policy towards Iran to reflect the level of threat it poses on the continent's streets."

The two attacks, which occurred in March, are now confirmed to be part of a coordinated campaign. The first incident took place in Liege on March 9th, and later that week, vehicles were destroyed in the heart of Antwerp's Jewish quarter. Neither attack resulted in injuries. The Israeli National Security Council currently classifies the threat level for Israelis in Belgium as "level two - an intermittent threat," advising residents to exercise increased caution.
