Supreme Court to Hear Challenges to Candidate Disqualifications Next Week
Israel's Supreme Court will convene next Thursday to hear appeals regarding the disqualification of candidates and lists from the upcoming elections. The first hearing will focus on the case of Sami Abu Shehadeh, chairman of the Balad party, and will be heard by a panel of nine justices. Following this, the court will address the disqualification of MK Ofer Cassif and the Joint List party, with which he is expected to run.
The nine-judge panel will include President Esther Hayut and Justices Uzi Fogelman, Yitzhak Amit, Noam Sohlberg, Daphne Barak-Erez, Yigal Mersky, Anat Shterntal, Khaled Kabub, and Gila Ganot.
For the hearing concerning Abu Shehadeh, representatives from Otzma Yehudit, Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Abu Shehadeh himself, and the Attorney General have been summoned. The hearing on Cassif's disqualification and the Joint List will include representatives from the Likud party, Cassif, and the Joint List.
