Israeli Influencer Shelka Claims Antisemitism in Barcelona

Israeli social media star Shelly Elmakis, known online as 'Shelka,' has accused Barcelona of antisemitism during her recent vacation. Elmakis, who had eagerly anticipated the trip, shared her negative experiences in a series of Instagram stories.

On a post featuring the Columbus Monument, Elmakis wrote, "Oh Barcelona, Barcelona, because you are so beautiful and have everything, you allow yourself to be antisemitic and insolent. The main thing is I am funding your form," accompanied by a crying emoji. She expressed frustration that despite the city's appeal, it was treating Israeli visitors poorly.

Elmakis shared a follower's comment that echoed her sentiments, stating, "They are clearly not pleasant, it's a disgrace, we are really not liked in Barcelona, and with all due respect to good shopping and good food, it is better to go to a destination that will embrace us and love us." The follower suggested that despite Barcelona's attractions, it's preferable to visit places where Israelis feel welcomed.

Elmakis had previously expressed immense excitement for this "big trip of her life" in May, detailing her long-held dream of traveling to Barcelona since before her military service. The vacation, which she had been looking forward to since enlisting, appears to have taken a sour turn due to what she perceives as a difficult reality for Israelis abroad during wartime.
