Toddler Hospitalized After Ingesting Toxic Substance in Jerusalem

A two-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital in moderate condition after accidentally drinking turpentine from a bottle in his home in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Mea Shearim on Friday. Emergency medical teams from United Hatzalah provided initial treatment at the scene before transporting the child to the hospital.

According to United Hatzalah, the family noticed the toddler's distress and immediately called for emergency services. Responders, including paramedics Avrimi and Tzvi Rozovsky and Meir Zander, arrived quickly and were informed that the child had ingested turpentine. They administered first aid before the boy was evacuated.

This incident highlights a recurring issue of young children being accidentally exposed to hazardous household materials. Turpentine, a chemical solvent used for cleaning and painting, can cause significant damage to the digestive and respiratory systems if ingested.

Medical officials are advising parents to store cleaning supplies and chemical solvents in locked, elevated places out of children's reach, ensuring all bottles are clearly labeled and kept in their original packaging.
