Israel Falls to Austria in Nations League Opener After Red Card

Israel's campaign in the UEFA Nations League began with a disappointing 3-1 loss to Austria. The Israeli team managed to equalize against Austria, but a second yellow card for Seyd Abu Farchi, issued after he celebrated a goal, left them playing with ten men.

Austria capitalized on the numerical advantage, scoring twice in added time through Philipp Mwene and Saša Kalajdžić to secure the victory. Israeli goalkeeper Daniel Peretz expressed his pain over the loss, stating, "It hurts, I am so proud of this team that played here for 40 minutes with ten players. Everyone put in an amazing performance." He acknowledged the defeat stemmed from a moment of lost concentration but highlighted positive aspects, noting, "11 against 11 they were not dangerous at all."

Peretz defended Abu Farchi, saying the player was most disappointed with himself and would learn from the experience. He praised Austria as an excellent team that had a strong World Cup performance. "There was no dangerous game, but maybe we are the ones who caused them not to be good," Peretz reflected. "We were there until the last minutes and we simply have to learn."
