Ashdod Opens New Northern Pier to Public

Ashdod inaugurated its new Northern Pier on Thursday, a project designed to enhance the city's coastal attractions and public spaces. The opening ceremony was attended by Michael Yitzhakov, Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Ashdod Mayor Dr. Yehiel Lasri, Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Ashdod Tourism Company Board Shimon Katsnelson, and Avi Azar, CEO of the Ashdod Tourism Company.

The pier extends the walking possibilities along the city's coastline. The project, which began planning in 2021, spans 550 meters in two sections: a 250-meter segment leading to the pier's gate, and a subsequent 300-meter section extending to its end. The total investment in the new destination reached approximately 12 million shekels, with an additional 5.1 million shekels contributed by the Ministry of Tourism.

Work on the pier included the arrangement of an existing path for improved accessibility and safety, development and electrical installations, and the addition of lighting, shading, and seating areas. Fences were removed, railings were installed along both sides of the breakwater, and the visual appearance of the wall separating the pier from the marina was improved. A separation was also created between the upper and lower levels, with the lower level used by schools.

The Northern Pier is a significant addition to the existing beach promenade, which now stretches from the Lakhish River estuary to the new pier. It offers residents and visitors an attractive spot for walking, resting, and enjoying views of the sea and marina, contributing to the development of public spaces along the coast. The Ashdod Municipality stated that the pier provides another reason for people to visit and enjoy the sea, reinforcing Ashdod's status as a tourist city and strengthening the connection between the city and the sea. The city highlighted that its seven beaches hold the international Blue Flag designation.
