Man Sentenced to Life for Murdering Elderly Man by Suffocation
The Nazareth District Court sentenced Mohammed Sabih, a resident of the Galilee village of Mizra, to life imprisonment on Thursday for the aggravated murder of 76-year-old Abdullah Saadi from the village of Muqeibla. The court also ordered Sabih to pay NIS 258,000 in compensation to the victim's family.
Sabih, along with an accomplice whose trial is ongoing, broke into Saadi's apartment late at night approximately three years ago. They bound the elderly man with duct tape, wrapping it around his head in a manner that blocked his airways. The two searched for Saadi's safe, stealing cash and jewelry during their 50-minute stay in the apartment.
After the robbery, the perpetrators left Saadi bound, leading to his death by suffocation. Another accomplice, Yaakov (Samir) Zuabi, also from Mizra, was convicted of planning the robbery and sentenced to four and a half years in prison. Zuabi, who did not participate in the robbery itself, had prior knowledge of Saadi and had visited his home the day before the murder.
