Man Sentenced to Life for Murder of Elderly Israeli Arab
The Central District Court in Nazareth on Thursday sentenced Mohammed Sbeih, a resident of Kafr Misr village, to life imprisonment for the murder of 76-year-old Abdullah Ali Saadi from Al-Meqeibla village. The court also ordered Sbeih to pay 258,000 shekels in compensation to the victim's family.
Sbeih and an accomplice broke into Saadi's home late at night approximately three years ago, intending to steal a safe. According to the indictment, they tied Saadi up with adhesive tape and Sbeih wrapped tape around his head, blocking his airways. The two spent about 50 minutes in the house, stealing money and jewelry, before leaving Saadi bound, which led to his death by suffocation.
The trial of the second suspect is ongoing. In a related development, another young man from Kafr Misr was convicted of planning the robbery and sentenced to four and a half years in prison. This individual, who knew Saadi and had visited him the day before the crime, was not present during the robbery but was found to have planned it.
