Defense Minister Israel Katz signed an order on Thursday officially erasing the criminal record of Elor Azaria. This action follows President Isaac Herzog's announcement of the move on the eve of Yom Kippur, making the decision official.
Azaria, a former IDF soldier, will now begin his life without a criminal record, nearly a decade after his conviction. He was sentenced to 18 months in military prison after being found guilty of manslaughter for shooting and killing a Palestinian assailant in Hebron. The incident occurred after the assailant had stabbed one of Azaria's fellow soldiers.
