Hapoel Tel Aviv Sued After Manager Fired Via WhatsApp
Former Hapoel Tel Aviv foreign relations manager Eran Atiya is suing the basketball club for wrongful termination, alleging he was fired via WhatsApp message without prior notice or a hearing. Atiya claims he was offered a position with the club by chairman Oren Hasson, agreeing to a gross monthly salary of NIS 45,000, a company car, and a phone. However, shortly after starting, Hasson allegedly demanded Atiya accept a reduced salary of NIS 35,000.
According to the lawsuit filed by attorney Rotem Zigdon, Atiya was dismissed due to "personal changes" within the club. He asserts he was fired unilaterally, without a hearing, and has not yet been paid his salary for August. The lawsuit also details claims of defamatory publications regarding his dismissal, which have severely damaged his reputation.
Atiya's legal representative stated that the termination occurred just before the holiday season, making it difficult for him to find new employment. The club reportedly presented Atiya with a termination agreement draft, requiring him to consent to a mutual separation, which he refuses to sign. His lawyer is seeking a settlement with appropriate compensation for the damages incurred.
Hapoel Tel Aviv has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
