Hapoel Tel Aviv Sued Over WhatsApp Firing of Foreign Relations Manager

Hapoel Tel Aviv is facing a lawsuit from its former Foreign Relations Manager, Eran Atiya, who claims he was fired via WhatsApp. Atiya, who previously held significant roles in Israeli basketball, was hired by the club after an offer from Chairman Oren Hasson. According to the lawsuit, Atiya left his position at Ironi Ramat Gan for Hapoel Tel Aviv based on agreed terms, including a monthly salary of 45,000 NIS, a company car, and a phone.

Shortly after starting, Atiya was reportedly asked by Hasson to accept a reduced salary of 35,000 NIS. The lawsuit alleges that due to "personal changes" within the club, Hapoel Tel Aviv acted in bad faith, terminating Atiya's employment abruptly via WhatsApp message without prior notice or a hearing. He was allegedly removed from work groups just before the holiday season.

Atiya also claims he has not been paid his August salary, constituting wage delay, and that damaging public statements were made about his dismissal, harming his reputation. The club reportedly presented him with a termination agreement draft, requiring him to consent to a mutual separation, which he refuses to sign, asserting he did not voluntarily leave his job.

Atiya's attorney, Rotem Zigdon, has proposed reaching a settlement to compensate for the damages incurred before pursuing further legal action. Hapoel Tel Aviv's response to the lawsuit was not immediately available.
