Election Committee Rejects Bid to Disqualify 'The Democrats' Party
Israel's Central Elections Committee on Thursday rejected a request to disqualify the "The Democrats" party from running in the upcoming 26th Knesset elections. The decision came after the committee had already refused similar requests to disqualify the "Otzma Yehudit," "Religious Zionism," and "Zehut" parties. Earlier in the day, the committee had voted 19-10 to reject a petition to disqualify Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, the "Otzma Yehudit" party, and prevent them from participating in the elections. Petitions to disqualify the "Religious Zionism" and "Zehut" lists were also denied.
In the latest development, the "The Democrats" party was also cleared to run. The vote to disqualify them saw only two committee members in favor, while 14 voted against, with no abstentions. The committee's deliberations are ongoing.
