Settlers Suspected of Arson, Vandalism in Palestinian Village

Palestinians allege that Israeli settlers set fire to two vehicles and spray-painted threatening graffiti on a building in the Palestinian village of Atara, near Ramallah, overnight between Wednesday and Thursday. Among the messages were "Qusra, wait on Thursday" and "Only transfer," referring to the expulsion of Palestinians from their land. The Israeli military (IDF) condemned the incident, and the police have launched an investigation. The graffiti is linked to several recent events, including the death of 17-year-old Amichai Atiya, who was struck by a vehicle in Hadera, and the murder of 48-year-old Natanel Shicron near Neve Tzuf. Another message, "Leiter," references a reservist soldier, Neria Leiter, who was seriously injured in a car-ramming attack at a checkpoint. The IDF stated that they received a report of the incident and that police would collect evidence for the investigation, adding that such acts "distract attention, undermine stability, and harm the operational and counter-terrorism activities of the IDF forces." Recent weeks have seen other alleged attacks, including vandalism and arson at a mosque in the village of Bazaria near Nablus, with graffiti reading "Evacuations - mess" and "You have been warned." Another message on the mosque walls, "Hagerty - greetings from the terrorists," alluded to a strong condemnation by U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Hagerty of a recent settler blockade on Palestinian homes in Qusra, which he termed "disgusting terrorism" by "Israeli terrorists."
