Hostage Survivor Buys Ritual Items for Sukkot Amidst Personal Struggle

Yosef Haim Ohana, a survivor of Hamas captivity, shared his personal story and connection to the Four Species, ritual items used during the Sukkot holiday, urging Israelis to maintain national unity. Ohana was abducted by Hamas terrorists on October 7 and held in Gaza. This year, he personally purchased the Four Species, emphasizing the importance of performing the mitzvah (religious commandment) before its time expires.

He recalled that last year, while he was in the Hamas tunnels in Gaza, his father bought the Four Species for him. "Half an hour before the end of the holiday, I merited to recite the blessing over the lulav," Ohana recounted. This year, he was able to acquire them himself shortly after his release.

Ohana stated that the act of purchasing and using the Four Species symbolizes the preservation of unity among the entire Jewish people. He requested that all of Israel purchase the Four Species, highlighting their significance in representing national solidarity.
