Juancho Hernangomez Reveals Maccabi Tel Aviv Offer During NBA Exit

Spanish forward Juancho Hernangomez, a former NBA player, disclosed that Maccabi Tel Aviv made him an offer when he decided to return to Europe from the NBA in the summer of 2023. Hernangomez, who is now a key player for Panathinaikos Athens after a relatively quiet first season, described the decision to choose a team as very difficult.

He explained in an interview with Euroleague & FRIENDS that his brother, Willy Hernangomez, was urging him to join Barcelona, and other European clubs, including Maccabi Tel Aviv and Fenerbahçe, also presented offers. Real Madrid was also monitoring his situation. Hernangomez acknowledged the appeal of playing closer to family and friends in Spain but ultimately opted for Greece, calling it a gamble that proved successful.

Hernangomez expressed gratitude for having multiple offers, which eased the decision-making process. He is now looking forward to the upcoming Euroleague season with Panathinaikos, under new coach Zeljko Obradovic, aiming for a better performance than last season when the team was eliminated in the playoffs by Valencia. Their first game of the new season will be against Paris.
