Arkia Flight Diverted to Cyprus Due to Technical Issue and Slot Delay

Passengers on an Arkia flight from Baku to Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) were surprised when their plane landed in Larnaca, Cyprus, instead of their intended destination. Upon landing, they were required to remain on the aircraft for approximately 90 minutes while waiting for an approved landing slot at TLV. The delay caused significant frustration and anger among the passengers, with some reportedly shouting due to their distress.

Arkia stated that a technical malfunction was discovered in one of its aircraft on the eve of Yom Kippur, necessitating adjustments to its flight schedule. The airline attempted to secure an earlier landing slot at Ben Gurion Airport for the flight arriving from Baku, but the Israel Airports Authority reportedly denied this request.

Consequently, the plane landed in Larnaca to await its originally scheduled landing time. Passengers described the situation as unpleasant, particularly for those traveling with children. The airline confirmed the diversion and the reason for the delay, emphasizing that the flight would proceed to TLV after its original slot became available.
