Israeli Police Report Drop in Arab Community Homicides Amid Arms Challenge

Israeli police announced a significant decrease in homicides within the Arab community, attributing the trend to intensified law enforcement operations against criminal elements and organizations. The efforts are part of a policy led by Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai, employing forces and intelligence to dismantle criminal infrastructure and curb violence.

Police projections suggest that if this trend continues, 2026 will see fewer fatalities compared to 2025. This reduction is credited to targeted actions against major criminal organizations, widespread arrests, seizures of illegal weapons, and the disruption of criminal plots, alongside the deployment of specialized units nationwide.

Despite the decline in murder rates, police acknowledge a persistent challenge in combating the proliferation of weapons, noting an increase in the use of hand grenades and rockets. In response, police and the Shin Bet security agency have enhanced their joint efforts to track down individuals involved in the possession, trade, and distribution of weapons. These operations reportedly result in the weekly seizure of hundreds of firearms, explosives, and grenades.

Commissioner Shabtai stated that intensive field operations and sustained pressure on criminal organizations are reflected in the noticeable drop in homicides, a situation Israeli police are committed to improving through proactive operations and decisive intelligence work.
