Israeli Couple Tears Up Hitler Photos in Italian Shop

An Israeli couple visiting Agropoli, a town in southern Italy, were shocked to find a souvenir shop displaying photographs of Adolf Hitler. Reut Halavi and Omer Wolf, from Tel Aviv, witnessed other tourists posing and smiling with the images.

Wolf, whose grandparents were Haganah fighters and whose family perished in the Holocaust, decided to purchase the photos and tear them up in front of the shopkeeper. He first approached the tourists taking pictures, explaining that the situation was not a laughing matter, and the woman apologized. He then bought the Hitler pictures and ripped them apart.

"He was shocked, and then he started talking to us and showing interest," Halavi recounted. After learning the couple was from Israel, the shopkeeper expressed regret for displaying the photos. According to Halavi, the shopkeeper stated that Israel is a persecuted people, shouted "Long live Israel," and promised to hang pictures of Yitzhak Rabin instead of Hitler's.

Halavi posted a video of the incident online, emphasizing that the goal was to send a clear message in a pleasant, non-violent manner. "I want to believe he was unaware of the significance of the photos and how offensive they are to the Jewish people, and that he understood the message," she concluded.
