Ilana Cohen, who formerly served as chair of the Nurses and Nursing Assistants Union, has died. Health Minister Haim Katz called her “a devoted public servant and a trailblazer” and said she was “one of the leaders of organized labor in Israel,” who for years led nurses and nursing assistants in the country.
Ministry of Health director general Moshe Bar Siman Tov said Cohen was “a pillar of the health system” who led nurses and nursing assistants “with a firm hand,” combining “rare professional determination and exceptional human sensitivity.”
Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Shoshi Goldberg described Cohen as “a beacon for the nursing profession in Israel” and “a visionary” who led historic changes “out of love for people and love for the profession.”
