Xiaomi Unveils New Flagship Phones With Advanced Privacy Screen
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has launched its new flagship smartphone series, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, featuring a revolutionary hardware-based privacy screen technology designed to prevent side-viewing. This innovative display, integrated directly into the main screen, precisely controls light projection angles, darkening the display for anyone looking from the side without the need for external screen protectors. Additionally, the selfie camera can detect foreign glances within a meter and at a 30-degree angle, triggering a vibration alert to lock the content.
The privacy features are flexible, allowing users to set automatic activation for sensitive applications like banking and social media, and can even be geofenced to activate automatically in specific locations such as offices or airports. The phones also boast a secondary 2.9-inch rear display for selfies, AI animations, and smart home control.
Both models are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, the world's first mobile chip built on a 2-nanometer architecture, reaching speeds of up to 5.0GHz. The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max features a significant camera upgrade with dual 200-megapixel Leica cameras, including a primary sensor with advanced light-handling technology and a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens offering 3.2x optical zoom and 12.8x lossless zoom. A 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 50-megapixel selfie camera complete the rear setup, supported by AI image processing.
In terms of power, the 18 Pro comes with a 7,000mAh battery, while the Pro Max offers a substantial 8,500mAh silicon-carbon battery designed for longevity. Both support 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. The phones are protected by durable Dragon Crystal 3.0 ceramic glass and are IP68 rated for water resistance. Pricing in China starts at approximately $750 for the Xiaomi 18 Pro and around $1,050 for the 18 Pro Max. Xiaomi confirmed that the series will be launched internationally, including in Israel, later this year.
