Israeli Cloud Security Firm Upwind Acquires Aegis in Multi-Million Dollar Deal
Israeli cloud security company Upwind has acquired local startup Aegis in a stock deal valued at tens of millions of dollars. The acquisition aims to bolster Upwind's capabilities in defending artificial intelligence technologies against emerging cyber threats.
Following the acquisition, Upwind will establish a new research and development center named Upwind AI Security Labs. This new facility will focus on developing advanced technologies to protect organizations implementing AI agents and AI-based workflows. The center will be led by Omri Limor and Saar Ankoni, founders of Aegis and veterans of the elite Unit 8200, who have offensive cyber backgrounds.
The Aegis team currently consists of 12 researchers and developers and is expected to expand rapidly to approximately 35 employees in the coming months. This strategic move follows several months of close technological collaboration between the two companies.
The acquisition comes amid Upwind's rapid growth. Founded in 2022 by Amiram Shahar and former colleagues from Spot.io, Upwind specializes in real-time threat analysis within cloud environments, distinguishing itself from static scanning methods to reduce false alerts. The company recently completed a significant funding round that valued it at $4 billion, bringing its total funding to approximately $700 million. Notable investors include Bessemer Ventures, Cyberstarts, and NBA star Steph Curry.
