Haim Revivo Reveals Why Son Roy Plays as a Defender

Former Israeli football star Haim Revivo has revealed the reasons behind his son Roy's transition to a defensive position in his nascent football career. Speaking to Spanish sports outlet AS, Revivo explained that he intentionally guided his son towards playing as a defender from a young age, aiming to differentiate him from his own attacking legacy.

"I wanted him to play in a different position than me, so from a young age I directed him to be a defender," Haim Revivo stated. He elaborated that Roy's naturally aggressive playing style and strong tackling abilities made him well-suited for a defensive role, which would allow him to showcase both defensive and offensive capabilities. Revivo also expressed a desire to avoid constant comparisons between himself and his son.

Roy Revivo, who recently moved from Israel to join Spanish club Elche, is still adapting to his new environment. Haim mentioned that while Roy understands Spanish, he is shy about speaking it and has begun taking lessons. He expressed hope for his son's quick acclimatization, emphasizing the importance of language in a new country. Despite the challenges, Roy has already made his way into the starting lineup after just four training sessions.

Revivo also touched upon his son's footballing idols, noting that Roy, like many young defenders, admires players such as Roberto Carlos and Marcelo. He hopes Roy will develop into a player of their caliber, or even surpass his own achievements. Elche was the only club that showed significant interest in Roy, although rumors of interest from other leagues and countries existed. Haim believes Spain offers the best platform for young talents to demonstrate their abilities.
