Haim Revivo Reveals Why Son Roy Plays as a Defender

Former Israeli football star Haim Revivo spoke about his son Roy's transition to Spanish club Elche, revealing he intentionally steered his son towards a defensive role to avoid constant comparisons.

"This is Roy's first time leaving Israel, and although he understands the language, he's embarrassed to speak it," Haim Revivo stated in an interview with Spanish outlet AS. He added that Roy has hired a Spanish tutor and expressed hope for his son's quick adaptation, emphasizing the importance of language in a new environment. Revivo noted that after only four training sessions, Roy had already started in a match and is expected to improve as he familiarizes himself with teammates and gains confidence.

Revivo explained his decision to have Roy play as a defender: "I wanted him to play in a different position than me, so from a young age I directed him to be a defender. He was a very aggressive player and tackled hard from a young age, so I wanted a position where he could show both defense and attack. I didn't want him to be compared to me all the time."

When asked about players Roy admired, Revivo mentioned Roberto Carlos and Marcelo, expressing hope that his son would develop into a player better than himself. He also confirmed that Elche was the only club genuinely interested in Roy, despite rumors linking him to other teams and countries, asserting that Spain's league is the best place for young players to showcase their abilities.

Roy Revivo, who previously played in Israel, has joined Elche's youth academy, with his father aiming for him to develop into a top-tier defender.
