Argentine President Javier Milei Honored by Jewish Community in New York

Argentine President Javier Milei visited the "Darchei Torah" yeshiva in Far Rockaway, New York, on Tuesday, the day after Yom Kippur. This visit marked his first significant engagement with the Jewish community during his trip. During the event, Milei addressed students of the Orthodox institution and received the "Lover of Israel" award.

The Argentine government confirmed the award was given to recognize the President's support for the Jewish people and the State of Israel. The yeshiva's administration described Milei as a leader who publicly supports Jews amidst rising antisemitism. They had previously informed parents about security and dismissal schedule changes.

Since taking office, Milei has made supporting Israel and strengthening ties with Jewish communities in the United States a prominent aspect of his foreign policy. Details of his speech at the yeshiva have not yet been officially released.

Milei's appearance at the educational institution is part of a three-day visit to New York, coinciding with the 81st UN General Assembly. His schedule also includes a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, as well as discussions with business and academic leaders before his return to Argentina.
