Israeli Court Approves Multi-Million Shekel Lawsuit Against Supermarket Chain Osher Ad
An Israeli court has approved a request to proceed with a class-action lawsuit seeking millions of shekels against the supermarket chain Osher Ad (Marav - Food All Ltd.). The lawsuit alleges that product prices were not properly displayed in the chain's stores. The initial request to file the suit was submitted several years ago, and following a lengthy review, the court has now permitted the case to move forward as a representative action.
It is important to note that the court's decision does not confirm the allegations' validity but rather allows the legal process to continue. Osher Ad stated that class-action lawsuits have increasingly become a tool for financial pressure on businesses. The company respects the court's decision but emphasizes that this is merely the approval to proceed as a class action, not a ruling on the merits of the case.
Osher Ad maintains that during the ongoing proceedings, they will demonstrate that consumer interests were not harmed, prices were clearly presented, and the company acted in accordance with legal interpretations. Founded in 2009, Osher Ad has grown into a major Israeli retailer known for accessible prices, operating 24 large stores across Israel and four in the United States under the Bingo Wholesale brand.
This is not the first legal challenge for the supermarket chain. Previously, a class-action lawsuit was approved regarding overcharging for egg cartons, and another was filed by a former cashier alleging improper deductions from wages for till shortages. Additionally, Osher Ad has faced claims of consumer deception related to its self-checkout system, and a civil suit concerning the sale of leavened products during Passover.
