Air Force Sergeant Arrested on Suspicion of Harassing Subordinates

A career sergeant in the Israeli Air Force has been arrested on suspicion of harassing two of his female subordinates. Following reports of his alleged actions, the suspect was interrogated, and the findings were transferred to the Military Advocate General's Corps for review. A military court extended his detention until October 6th, pending a hearing and the potential filing of an indictment. The next hearing in the sergeant's case is scheduled for the coming week. The suspect's identity is under a gag order until October 4th at 3:00 PM.

Data released last year indicates a significant issue with harassment within the military. In the first half of the previous year, 1,630 complaints were filed, with 73% concerning sexual harassment within units. Another 14% related to harassment in civilian contexts, 10% before enlistment, and 3% involved domestic violence. Of those who filed complaints, 66% opted for command-level resolution, 23% did not want any intervention, and 9% were transferred to the police.

The IDF has also identified a substantial rise in complaints regarding a 'harassing atmosphere,' characterized by crude and sexualized discourse within units. Such complaints increased from 133 in the first half of 2024 to 275 in the first half of 2025.

A spokesperson for the IDF stated, 'The IDF views any sexual offense very seriously and will continue to act decisively to prosecute every such incident. Support personnel from the Yo'alam unit are accompanying the victims from the reporting stage and are available to them as needed.'
