Hapoel Jerusalem Owner Calls for Better Cooperation with Rival Clubs

Hapoel Jerusalem owner Matan Adelson expressed his desire for improved collaboration between Israel's major basketball clubs, stating that "we worked better in the past" with Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv. Adelson spoke at the club's 2026/27 season launch event in Jerusalem, emphasizing that unity among the three clubs would be in everyone's best interest.

Adelson also addressed the ongoing efforts to bring EuroLeague games back to Israel, acknowledging that it is "a bit beyond our control" but that the club is doing everything possible. He welcomed the visit of EuroLeague CEO Dejan Bodiroga to Israel as a positive step and confirmed weekly discussions with the league's management.

Regarding potential venues for home games if they cannot be played in Israel, Adelson noted that while Belgrade has pros and cons, Cyprus is a more attractive option. Hapoel Jerusalem is actively pursuing Cyprus as a potential alternative if playing in Israel proves impossible.

On the team's roster, Adelson conveyed satisfaction with the squad built for the upcoming season but stressed that success hinges on winning games. He acknowledged the difficulty of replacing player Jared Harper, calling it "almost impossible" to find an equivalent replacement, but assured that the club would seek the best possible substitute to meet their goals.

Adelson also highlighted the significance of signing coach Sasa Obradovic, viewing it as proof of Hapoel Jerusalem's status as a major player in European basketball. He expressed confidence that Obradovic's experience, including reaching the EuroLeague Final Four, would help the team achieve its ambitions.

The season launch event, held at the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem, included players and the professional staff, marking an opportunity for the club to connect with its community.
