Hapoel Jerusalem Owner Optimistic Despite Challenges

Hapoel Jerusalem officially launched its 2026-27 season at the Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem on Tuesday. Club owner Matan Adelson, players, and the professional staff attended the event. Adelson expressed satisfaction with the team's roster, stating, "The sky is the limit for this team." He also addressed the ongoing efforts to bring EuroLeague games back to Israel, acknowledging that it is "a bit beyond our control" but that the club is doing "everything possible." Adelson welcomed the visit of EuroLeague CEO Dejan Bodiroga to Israel as a positive step and confirmed weekly discussions with the league's management.

Regarding cooperation with rival Israeli clubs Maccabi Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv on the issue of hosting games, Adelson remarked, "We worked better in the past." He emphasized that unity among the three clubs would be in everyone's best interest. Adelson also discussed the potential relocation of games to Cyprus, noting its advantages over Belgrade, Serbia, and confirmed that Hapoel Jerusalem would pursue this option if feasible, prioritizing the return of games to Israel.

Adelson elaborated on the team's composition, acknowledging the difficulty in replacing player Jared Harper, but expressed confidence in the team's ability to achieve its goals. He highlighted the signing of coach Sasa Obradovic as proof of Hapoel Jerusalem's significant presence in European basketball and their ambition to reach the top. Adelson concluded by emphasizing the importance of the launch event for connecting with the community.
