Israel, Greece, Cyprus Name Winter Storms for Eastern Mediterranean

The meteorological services of Israel, Greece, and Cyprus have agreed on a list of names for severe storms expected to affect the Eastern Mediterranean region this coming winter. The first storm will be named Argos, followed by Bar, and then Chabrias. This new list was published by the National Meteorological Service of Greece. Names will be assigned alphabetically, including Argos, Bar, Chabrias, Dorothea, Eitan, Philippa, Glafkos, Hadar, Ikaros, Jason, Kedem, Laskarina, Morfeas, Nadia, Odysseus, Persephone, Roxani, Sisyphos, Tamar, Uranus, Vergina, Wasim, Xanthe, Ypnos, and Zoar. The list incorporates names suggested by all three nations.

Israel, Greece, and Cyprus have collaborated on naming significant storms since 2021. A storm is only named if it is sufficiently severe and poses a potential danger to the public. This naming convention aims to simplify the dissemination of warnings and assist residents in tracking approaching storm fronts. If a storm has already been named in another European region, its name remains unchanged when it moves into the Eastern Mediterranean.
