Heavy Vehicle Fatalities Spike in Israel, Tel Aviv Most Dangerous City
Israel experienced its deadliest year on record for road accidents involving heavy vehicles in 2025, according to data from the "Or Yarok" association, which analyzes Central Bureau of Statistics figures. A total of 116 heavy vehicles, including trucks over 3.5 tons and buses, were involved in fatal accidents in 2025, an 8% increase from 107 such incidents in 2024. This marks the worst year in the past decade for fatal crashes involving trucks and buses.
On average, approximately 1,300 heavy vehicles are involved in road accidents annually in Israel, with nearly 100 in fatal incidents and 340 in serious accidents each year. In 2025, Tel Aviv-Yafo recorded the highest number of heavy vehicle accidents, with 529 such vehicles involved in road accidents within the city, accounting for 54% of all heavy vehicle accidents that year. Of these, 87 were involved in serious accidents and seven in fatal ones.
Jerusalem saw 73 heavy vehicles involved in road accidents in 2025, with 43 in serious incidents and two in fatal crashes. Haifa reported 32 heavy vehicle accidents, one fatal and 12 serious. Bnei Brak had 24 heavy vehicle accidents, three fatal and 11 serious. Ashdod recorded 19 heavy vehicle accidents, four fatal and three serious. Ramat Gan had 19 heavy vehicle accidents, one fatal and seven serious. Petah Tikva reported 18 heavy vehicle accidents, five fatal and ten serious. Bat Yam had 18 heavy vehicle accidents, one fatal and five serious.
Over the past decade (2016-2025), Tel Aviv-Yafo has seen 1,157 heavy vehicle accidents, with 53 resulting in fatalities. Jerusalem recorded 1,217 heavy vehicle accidents over the same period, with 45 fatalities. Haifa had 506 heavy vehicle accidents, 30 fatal. Bnei Brak had 255 heavy vehicle accidents, 13 fatal. Beersheba had 274 heavy vehicle accidents, 13 fatal. Netanya had 207 heavy vehicle accidents, 14 fatal. Ashdod had 234 heavy vehicle accidents, 16 fatal. Ramat Gan had 259 heavy vehicle accidents, seven fatal. Petah Tikva had 239 heavy vehicle accidents, 16 fatal. Bat Yam had 244 heavy vehicle accidents, eight fatal.
