Trump Addresses UN General Assembly, Cites 9/11 and Oct. 7 Attacks

U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the annual United Nations General Assembly, speaking after Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who reportedly praised Yasser Arafat. Trump's remarks, portions of which were leaked to the press, focused heavily on terrorism and the threat posed by Iran.

Trump referenced the upcoming 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks in the United States, which killed 3,000 people. He also noted the upcoming third anniversary of the October 7th attacks in Israel, stating that Iran-backed terrorists murdered 1,200 innocent civilians, including dozens of Americans, after torturing and abusing them. He quoted Iran's Supreme Leader as celebrating the massacre and calling it "service to humanity," while also highlighting the regime's domestic repression, which has killed over 72,000 of its own citizens this year.

"Just imagine what such a despicable regime would ever get the ability to carry out large-scale terror attacks under the auspices of a nuclear umbrella," Trump stated, warning that this was a reality many preferred to ignore. He also thanked the UN Security Council for overwhelmingly passing a resolution condemning Iran's attacks on commercial shipping, noting it received more support than any other Security Council resolution in history.

Trump concluded by asserting that the United States would no longer allow threats against America to gain a foothold in the Western Hemisphere and would use its "unrivaled military power" to protect vital national interests if necessary.
