Israeli Father Dies in Slovenia While Saving Son From Fall
An Israeli man, 44-year-old Gil Gillel, tragically died in Slovenia after falling while attempting to rescue his 7-year-old son. The incident occurred near the Savica waterfall in the popular Bohinj tourist area. The boy slipped and fell into a gorge, and his father, hearing his cries, rushed to help but lost his footing and fell down a steep slope. Rescuers found both father and son in the Savica River. Gillel sustained fatal injuries, while his son was airlifted in serious condition to the University Hospital in Ljubljana. The difficult terrain required specialized rope equipment for the rescue operation. Local police are investigating the circumstances of the fall. Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic staff are assisting the family with arrangements to repatriate the body. Gillel, an engineer at Maytronics, lived in Kibbutz Yizre'el with his wife and three children. He was born in Moshav Mikhmoret and studied at the Technion. The kibbutz leadership and residents expressed their condolences.
