Javier Bardem Calls for Pink's Removal as UNICEF Ambassador

Spanish actor Javier Bardem has initiated a campaign on Instagram, urging for the removal of singer Pink from her role as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. The 57-year-old actor shared a petition with his 1.5 million followers, calling for action against Pink following her criticism of rapper Macklemore.

Macklemore's performance at a New Jersey stadium, where he called for "Free Palestine" with visuals of the Gaza war in the background, sparked the controversy. Pink responded by sharing a post from the organization StopAntisemitism, which accused Macklemore of "anti-Israel propaganda." She also shared memes, including one suggesting the role of a clown is to please everyone.

Pink, who is Jewish, later posted a lengthy explanation detailing her stance. She emphasized her decade-long tenure as a UNICEF ambassador and her encounters with children affected by war, stating, "I was born Jewish, I didn't choose that." She highlighted that her comments stemmed from a personal place.

The petition shared by Bardem argues that Pink's "recent statements are not only regrettable but also inconsistent with her role as a UNICEF ambassador, an individual expected to promote peace, understanding, and humanitarian values above personal biases." It calls on UNICEF to "take decisive action and remove Pink from her ambassadorial role," asserting this would reaffirm UNICEF's commitment to neutrality and all children regardless of nationality or heritage.

Previously, Macklemore was removed as an opening act for Ed Sheeran after venues threatened to cancel shows if he continued his pro-Palestinian statements. This decision led to other artists, including Finneas and Aaron Rowe, withdrawing from the tour.
