Netanyahu to Confront NYC Mayor at UN Over Hamas Support Claims

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused New York City Mayor Eric Adams of supporting Hamas and inciting anti-Jewish protests. Netanyahu announced via a video message on social media platform X that he intends to use his upcoming speech at the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York to respond to Adams' accusations.

"Shame on you, Mr. Adams," Netanyahu stated. "Shame on you for supporting the terrorist monsters of Hamas who massacred our people. Shame on you for inciting riots against New York Jews. I am going to the UN. I will tell the truth about our heroic soldiers and I will tell the truth about you."

Netanyahu's visit to New York is anticipated to feature a direct confrontation with the mayor. Adams had previously called Netanyahu a "war criminal" and the "architect of a terrible genocide of the Palestinian people" in a CNN interview, and stated that an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for the prime minister should be executed, though he acknowledged lacking the authority to arrest Netanyahu himself.

Adams had previously vowed to seek Netanyahu's arrest if he attended the UN General Assembly, but later admitted his administration lacked the necessary legal powers. Netanyahu is now set to respond directly from New York. The Israeli side anticipates large-scale protests during the prime minister's visit, with security measures in the city heightened. Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, had previously warned that protests could be particularly intense, though Adams himself stated he would not participate in demonstrations against Netanyahu.

Amid preparations for Netanyahu's visit, Adams met with U.S. President Donald Trump in what was described as a surprisingly friendly atmosphere. New York is preparing for both Netanyahu's address at the UN and the accompanying protests.
