Hapoel Tel Aviv Weighs Tamir Blatt's Future Amid EuroLeague Roster Decisions

Hapoel Tel Aviv is preparing for their EuroLeague season opener against Bayern Munich on Thursday, aiming to put a significant loss in the Super Cup to Maccabi Tel Aviv behind them. Key players Elijah Bryant and John Brown, who missed the previous game due to illness, are expected to be available. The team has registered 15 players for the EuroLeague season, including their 11 foreign players and four Israelis, with one roster spot remaining. Notably, Tamir Blatt, along with several other players, was not initially included in the EuroLeague roster.

The club is facing a significant decision regarding point guard Tamir Blatt. While Hapoel initially considered loaning Blatt out, potentially to Budućnost, the recent heavy defeat in the derby and the lack of a backup point guard for Lorenzo Brown have prompted a reevaluation. Hapoel can still add Blatt to their EuroLeague and domestic league rosters, but the inclusion of Eugene German in the EuroLeague roster suggests the team is currently prioritizing him.

German, an American guard, has a contract with an opt-out clause, and if Blatt were to join, he would likely compete with German for playing time. Removing German from the roster now would mean forfeiting a roster spot for the entire season, indicating the club's current reliance on him. Blatt was not present for the team's media day activities.

"It's quite clear that a player of Tamir Blatt's caliber, if he's not in the EuroLeague plans, won't be here just for the league," a club source stated on Monday. "The situation regarding him will become clear soon."
