Clalit Expands Oncology Services to Karmiel with New Clinic and Day Hospital
Clalit Health Services, in conjunction with Haifa and Western Galilee District and Carmel Hospital, has launched a new oncology clinic and day hospitalization unit in Karmiel. This expansion aims to provide local cancer patients with advanced consultations, monitoring, and treatments closer to home, reducing the need for long-distance travel.
The new facility will offer specialized care tailored to specific tumor types, including breast, lung, digestive, urinary, and skin cancers. Following the development of a personalized treatment plan by a specialist oncologist, patients can receive various treatments, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormonal therapy, at the Karmiel day hospital.
Dr. Ekaterina Shulman highlighted the model's success in combining specialized expertise with local treatment accessibility, emphasizing the importance of proximity and integrated professional support for patients requiring frequent visits. The multidisciplinary team includes specially trained oncology nurses, a clinical pharmacist overseeing medication, a social worker providing support, and administrative staff to manage logistics.
Additional services available at the complex include consultative medicine, pain management, physical therapy, rehabilitation, integrative medicine, a pharmacy, and community emergency services. Dr. Erez Liebel, Director of Clalit's Haifa and Western Galilee District, stated that the new unit offers a comprehensive professional system for patient care, linking oncology experts with community and hospital teams for high-quality, continuous treatment near patients' homes.
