World Leaders Gather at UN General Assembly Amid Mideast Tensions

The 81st United Nations General Assembly is convening in New York, with global leaders addressing critical geopolitical issues, primarily the escalating tensions in the Middle East and the conflict with Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump is set to open the assembly and will host an urgent meeting with leaders of Gulf states to discuss future strategies.

Central to this year's discussions will be Israel and the United States, focusing on the heightened tensions with Iran and the ongoing war against terror organizations. Beyond stability in the region, discussions are also anticipated regarding the succession of UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is also scheduled to address the assembly, with reports suggesting he will portray Iran as a "victim of American aggression" to garner international support. This comes as Iran has sent a limited delegation to New York.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to make a brief visit to the U.S. on Thursday, just before the Sukkot holiday begins in Israel. He is scheduled to deliver a speech at the UN, emphasizing Israel's security needs on all fronts. This visit is notably shorter than previous ones, with Netanyahu planning to depart for Israel the same night to arrive before the holiday.

Unlike past visits, Netanyahu will not meet with President Trump due to Trump's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Instead, Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
