Israel's Yom Kippur Sees Thousands Seek Medical Aid, IDF Conducts Security Operations

During Yom Kippur, Israel experienced a surge in medical emergencies, with the Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency service reporting 3,322 calls for assistance and 2,268 hospitalizations. The holiday's observance, marked by a cessation of transportation and airport closures, saw emergency services operate at heightened capacity.

A significant number of calls, 368, were related to dehydration and fainting due to the strict fast. Road accidents, primarily involving bicycles, scooters, and roller skates, resulted in injuries for 298 people, with 8 sustaining moderate injuries. Overall, 46 individuals were injured in traffic accidents, and one person remained in critical condition.

Medical teams also assisted in 154 births, with paramedics performing three emergency deliveries. Tragic incidents included a fatal concrete mixer rollover in Kafr Kanna and a fatal motorcycle crash near Anatot. The body of an undocumented Palestinian worker was found in Umm al-Fahm, with the cause of death under investigation. Violence across the country led to 38 incidents, leaving one person in serious condition.

Concurrently, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted security operations. In Qabatiya, the Duvdevan special forces unit arrested two Palestinians suspected of planning an attack. Investigations also took place in Biddu, the hometown of a militant involved in the murder of Netanel Shachron in Samaria prior to the holiday. During these operations, approximately 90 suspects were questioned and weapons were seized.
