Israel Deploys Thousands for Yom Kippur Security

Israeli police have finalized preparations for Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which begins this evening and concludes tomorrow. Thousands of police officers, combatants, and volunteers will be deployed nationwide to ensure public order and citizen safety. Special attention will be given to synagogues, holy sites, crowded areas, border lines, and major transportation routes. The heightened security measures aim to maintain order and safety while also facilitating freedom of worship. Operational forces will utilize air, sea, and ground assets for rapid response to any emergencies.

Particular emphasis is placed on the safety of children and teenagers, who traditionally take to the streets on bicycles and scooters during the holiday. Traffic police will increase their presence on intercity highways, monitoring compliance with traffic laws, including by cyclists and e-scooter users. Parents are reminded to ensure their children wear helmets and protective gear, avoid excessive speeds, and exercise caution when crossing roads and bridges. The use of electric bicycles and scooters is permitted only within legal age limits.

Police are also requesting that citizens avoid obstructing emergency and rescue vehicles. Despite the near-complete cessation of regular car traffic on Yom Kippur, these vehicles may need to respond to incidents or rescue operations at any time.
