Israel Observes Yom Kippur With Hundreds Injured, Security Operations

During Yom Kippur, Israel's holiest day, hundreds of people sustained injuries, primarily from bicycle accidents, as the country came to a standstill. Emergency services reported treating 3,322 individuals, with 2,268 requiring hospitalization. Common incidents included 368 people suffering from dehydration and fainting due to fasting, and 298 injured in falls from bicycles, scooters, and rollerblades. Road accidents resulted in 46 injuries, one critically. Additionally, 154 women were transported to hospitals for childbirth, with paramedics assisting in three pre-hospital births. Tragic incidents included a fatal concrete mixer rollover near Kafr Kanna, a fatal motorcycle crash near Anatot, and the discovery of a deceased illegal Palestinian worker in Umm al-Fahm, whose death is under investigation. Violence was also a concern, with 38 incidents reported nationwide, leading to one severe injury.

While the public observed the religious holiday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted security operations. In Qabatiya, elite Duvdevan unit soldiers arrested two Palestinians planning an imminent attack. In Biddu, a village linked to a perpetrator of a murder near a Samaria spring shortly before Yom Kippur, soldiers questioned 90 suspects and seized a hunting rifle as part of an ongoing investigation.
